This reference (see zipped, Excel files) is the first in a series released by CMS on June 1, 2006 to make cost and quality data available to the public. They contain charge and Medicare payment data for 30 common elective procedures and other hospital admissions performed in ambulatory surgery centers. These ASC facility costs represent a limited set of services rendered in U.S. states and counties. Codes/services directly related to the types of services that may be rendered during an inpatient hospital stay, and correlate to 41 Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs). Later this fall, CMS will also post payment information for common hospital outpatient and physician services this.  See press release.  Another related example of the initiative is the quality measures on hospitals across the nation currently reported to the public at www.HospitalCompare.hhs.gov and supported by the Hospital Quality Alliance.
